A Touring Center can be an ideal style of riding. Say you want to bring your wife or girlfriend but she might not want to ride every day (or at all). Home Base is always a lovely hotel centered in a town with plenty to do. Or maybe you’re a rider more than a sightseer. The location is always a spot with so many good roads it deserves a week of loops. For example, Koh Kaeng is for Thailand one of this Touring Centers, it is situated in the heart of North Eastern Thailand, with road stretching out to all locations around it. For you GPS freaks the geographical location is 16°26′N 102°50′E. The city itself has a population of about 140,000 people.
The Mithraphap Highway, one of Thailand’s more important road connections, run straight through town. A modern, multi-lane by-pass enables through traffic to avoid the city centre to the west and connects to the airport and to the main roads to Kalasin and Mahasarakham in the east and Udon Thani in the north.
Many who take a motorcycle tour use Koh Kaen as a base operation. Or maybe you just want a vacation and don’t want to have to cover a certain distance everyday. Maybe you want to chill when you want to chill, eat when you want to eat, and yes, ride when you want to ride.
Northeast Thailand, also know to the locals as Isan, offers some unique day tour locations; from looking at dinosaur footprints to historical temples, or see unforgettable Thai fresh food markets.
No big bike is needed to accomplish these tours; some of the locals do it daily on scooter like 125cc Honda Wave motorcycles. Koh Kaen has one of the busiest domestic airports and with several daily flights from Bangkok, it is possible to fly to Koh Kaen rent a motorcycle and start touring like the locals. This really offers an additional trill too touring Thailand.
