The Honda NT700V Deauville's are generally owned by the more serious, sensible rider that takes great pride in their motorcycles and like to love, cherish and service them on a regular basis. Honda Deauville owned by these people are the ones to go for and the easy life that they've led is easy to spot.Another groups that Honda Deauville are popular with, however, is professional riders in some countries. These guys rack up tons of kilometers on the Honda NT700V, and don't always treat them with maximum respect. There are plenty around that have done over 150,000 kilometers without too many problems. Although the Honda NT700V Deauville is generally very robust and reliable, motorcycles with a bad service history should be avoided, or at least bought for a lot less money.
If you can deal with the stick you'll get from riding a Honda Deauville, then it's economical, easy-going, reliable and comfortable style will ultimately allow you to have the last laugh.
Engine problems on the Honda Deauvilles are pretty rare. But, like any engine, the V-twin does need some care and attention if it's to lead a long and healthy life. This ought to be clear from the general condition of the motorcycle and its service records. If they're in order, then expect the motorcycle to last a lifetime.
The motorcycle we tested showed signs of a slightly harder life, and while the gearbox was generally okay, it wasn't the best example we've ever tried with a notchy action and the potential for false neutrals – typical of some higher kilometer motorcycle. Take a friend or mechanic to follow you on a test ride preferably through town to check its action which should be fairly slick and secure. Rev it harder while going up and down through the gears to check for blue smoke from the exhaust pipe – a sure sign of engine wear. Corrosion on the front engine is common thanks to the short front guard not being able keep the road much from coating it. Basic home servicing is easy enough, but getting to the engine's top end is tricky due to restricted access. There are plenty of excellent Honda Deauvilles on the Asian market. Be as fussy as you like to make sure you e4nd up with a good one.
